Seeking to expand its distribution strategy, video communications service provider LifeSize has reportedly signed a deal with Tech Data  Corporation which will enable Tech Data to distribute LifeSize's complete HD product portfolio.

In turn, Tech Data's networking, telephony and communications solutions partners will be able to resell LifeSize's video solutions to their SMB customers throughout the U.S.

"There is tremendous opportunity and demand for affordable, high quality HD videoconferencing solutions among SMBs," said LifeSize CEO Craig Malloy. "Our partnership with Tech Data enables us to engage an expanded network of resellers whom influence IT purchases of SMBs throughout the U.S. Our HD product portfolio combined with Tech Data's distribution network will catapult LifeSize to the next level."

As part of the agreement, LifeSize and TechData plan to co-develop marketing campaigns and channel programs to recruit and support resellers deploying LifeSize's solutions. In addition, Tech Data's Telephony Specialized Business Unit (SBU) will provide full technical support for these products.

LifeSize claims its video conferencing service delivers true 1280x720 video at 30 frames per second over broadband networks with as little as 1 Mbps of bandwidth. In addition its SIP-based service can interoperate with nearly any videoconferencing system.

In related news, LifeSize today announced that Dan Sibille, formerly of Extreme Networks  has been named director of global channels at the company. In his new role, Sibille will be responsible for establishing new OEM relationships, as well as managing existing ones. He will also be responsible for forming new distribution relationships and developing new programs for qualified channel partners.

According to a company press release, Sibille has nearly 25 years of experience in building high performance teams and developing multi-level indirect programs and channel strategies. While at Extreme Networks, he created an indirect distribution channel and built it into the top performing revenue generator for the entire company. Sibille has also held management positions at Internet Security Systems, Watchguard Technologies and 3Com .

Sibille will report to Adam Taylor, executive vice president of worldwide sales and service for LifeSize. In the press release, Taylor said he and Sibille hope to achieve "triple digit growth" for the company over the next few years.

"LifeSize is the most exciting channel opportunity I can imagine, where the ideal product solves a critical market need," Sibille said. "LifeSize delivers high definition video communications using the open Internet at a very affordable price. The corporate world is eager to adopt video technology to reduce travel, control expense, pollute less, increase productivity and improve their employees' quality of life. Our channel partners will help us reach a far broader customer base and expand the use of this exciting technology."
